Our Mission

To advocate for, support, and encourage history education and the historical practice in New York State, both inside and outside the classroom, through public and private collaboration

Who we are.

The New York Public History Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in 2022 to advocate, support, and encourage history education and historical practice in New York State, both in and outside the classroom, through public and private collaboration.

Our team, comprised of museum, education, and media professionals, is committed to improving social studies education in the state of New York. By working through existing statewide education and cultural networks, NYPHT will bridge the gaps between these often-disconnected realms.

The launch of New York Public History Trust happens as our state and union prepare to mark their 250th anniversaries--naturally, this is our intention. Such a major celebration provides a rare opportunity to seize momentum and attention among educators, media, and the public.

We seek to serve a critical function in K-12 social studies education statewide, with a mission to create a streamlined network for educators and students to access history and civics learning resources.

Over the past 250 years we have become a nation of many nationalities, races, and creeds bound together by the unity of patriotism, freedom and equality. True patriotism springs from a belief in the dignity of the individual, freedom and equality not only for American or New Yorkers, but for all people on earth.

“New York State played a pivotal role in the American Revolution, and we look forward to welcoming people from all over the world to join us in commemorating the 250th anniversary in 2026, The commemoration will not only celebrate the Revolutionary War and the Declaration of Independence, but will also emphasize New York’s ongoing effort to achieve our nation’s founding principles of representative democracy with equal participation and rights for all.”
